Learn more about ADHD treatment at Rivervew Behavioral Health Hospital in Texarkana, AR
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common mental health condition that impacts an individual’s ability to focus attention in a sustained manner and to regulate his or her behavior. This condition is most frequently diagnosed in childhood, with symptoms sometimes emerging prior to the age of 4. Left untreated, ADHD will negatively impact affected individuals in a variety of ways, making functioning to potential at home, school, and work quite difficult.
But fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options that can help individuals learn to manage the symptoms of ADHD so that they can go on to leave healthy, productive, and fulfilled lives. By attending a quality treatment program designed to address ADHD specifically, one can learn the skills needed to overcome symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity. Sometimes, medications are recommended as part of a comprehensive plan of care to address the symptoms of ADHD, and can be highly useful in allowing the individual to self-regulate and attune to the supports available in treatment and in daily life.
Helping a Loved One
Helping a Loved One or Family Member Get Treatment for ADHD
If you have a loved one or family member who is struggling with ADHD, you likely wish to find ways to support him or her. However, it can be difficult to know where to begin when it comes to finding ways to help your loved one receive the treatment he or she needs. As you prepare to encourage your loved one to enter treatment, please consider the following:
- Begin researching the signs, symptoms, possible causes, and effects of ADHD. By becoming more familiar with the condition, you will be better prepared to assist your loved one in selecting a treatment option that is a good fit for him or her.
- As you learn more about ADHD, apply what you now know to your search for a treatment center in your loved one’s area. Be on the lookout for programs which provide services specifically catered to individuals who are suffering from ADHD.
- Maintain a tone of sensitivity and compassion throughout the conversations with your loved one. Even if there is some resistance to the idea of seeking treatment at first, reassure him or her that you only wish to see him or her find a path to greater health and happiness.
- Commit to following through with any recommendations your loved one’s treatment program may have for ways you and the rest of your family can positively support him or her during treatment and after he or she returns home.
During this time, it will be imperative that you be mindful of your own mental and physical health and wellbeing. Supporting your loved one will take large amounts of strength and energy, but you will be better positioned to encourage him or her if you take time for yourself, doing activities that replenish you.
Why Consider Treatment
Why consider treatment for ADHD at Rivervew Behavioral Health Hospital in Texarkana, AR
ADHD is one of the more common mental health conditions, but sadly, despite the wide array of treatment options available, many individuals do not seek care for this disorder. Left untreated, symptoms of inattentiveness and hyperactivity will worsen, and some individuals may seek to self-medicate with illicit substances as feelings of hopelessness, frustration, and low self-esteem continue to mount. Symptoms of ADHD can make attending to some of life’s most simple tasks incredibly difficult, and affected individuals may find themselves unable to maintain steady employment, and may have trouble engaging in healthy relationships.
But fortunately, with the help of a personalized treatment program, individuals with ADHD can interrupt the symptoms of their condition, and can replace dysfunctional behavioral patterns with the coping tools they need to heal. Comprehensive treatment for ADHD can improve attentiveness, self-awareness, and self-regulation, and can positively impact all aspects of a person’s life. If you or someone you care about is showing signs of ADHD, we encourage you to reach out to a treatment provider in your area and learn more about their programming today.

Once done, and if the care we supply is appropriate, you will be able to engage in a blend of the following therapeutic supports while at our center:
Medication management services: When men and women come to Riverview Behavioral Health for treatment, they are often grappling with symptoms of mental disorders that can be quite difficult to manage with just coping skills alone. Especially if a person is suffering from severe symptoms of ADHD, certain medications may be needed in order for the individual to focus on other aspects of his or her treatment. For this reason, we are pleased to offer medication management services that are facilitated by our onsite psychiatrist. The need for medication will be thoroughly assessed, and any medications prescribed will be closely monitored to ensure their safety and effectiveness while an individual is in our care.
Medical care: While Riverview Behavioral Health is not a medical hospital, men and women will receive basic medical care and attention from our medical doctor, nurse practitioner, and experienced team of nurses who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We offer this form of care so that those seeking to heal from ADHD are able to achieve and/or maintain good health for the duration of their stay with us.
Individual therapy: So as to afford the men and women we treat with the individualized attention they need to heal from ADHD, individual therapy is offered one time each week while they are at our center. Licensed mental health professionals conduct these sessions, which can serve as a time to talk about experiences from the past, process current feelings and emotions, and develop goals for the future.
Group therapy: At Riverview Behavioral Health, we include group therapy in each person’s treatment for AHDH. Held every day and led by both licensed mental health professionals and recreational therapists, group therapy is an integral part of the care we offer. Designed to foster camaraderie among patients, provide support in a communal setting, and allow men and women to encourage one another and practice skills, we supply process groups and a number of other groups that can cover the following topics:
- Co-occurring disorders
- Medication education
- Anger management
- Anxiety management
- Psychoeducation on mental health disorders
- Stress management
- Coping skills
- Crisis intervention
Family therapy: At least one time per week, patients at Riverview Behavioral Health can participate in family therapy sessions with their loved ones. These sessions can mend damaged familial relationships, help family members begin to understand one another better, and assist all who attend in understanding the process of healing from the strife that may have been caused by ADHD.
Family program: As a means of providing those closest to the individuals we treat with education on ADHD and other mental illnesses and so that they can receive their own support during this time, Riverview Behavioral Health offers a family program every other Friday. This program includes psychoeducational opportunities, process groups, and a chance to give and receive support to and from other family members and close friends who also care about someone battling ADHD. By making this sort of program available, we have found that the men and women who complete treatment at our center return to their respective homes with a stronger foundation of support.
The aforementioned interventions are those that help patients at Riverview Behavioral Health develop the skills and confidence needed to effectively cope with and manage ADHD symptoms in a healthy and productive manner. Depending on the needs of the individual, certain methods of care may be added or removed from his or her treatment plan so that only the most favorable treatment outcomes result.
